Ibsen Photonics is a global provider of transmission gratings and grating based spectrometer modules for OEM applications. Our transmission gratings cover the UV, VIS and NIR ranges and are used in diverse industries such as telecom, sensing, lasers and spectroscopy. Our high performance, compact spectrometer modules are used by international customers in sensor systems and spectroscopy applications such as OCT, LIBS, Raman, absorption and florescence spectroscopy. Ibsen Photonics is a privately held company, majority owned by Foss A/S, with headquarters in Farum, Denmark.

Job Description

Ibsen Photonics A/S is recruiting a Vice President of Sales.

Are you passionate about sales? And are you a dynamic leader and a stellar sales manager? Then we might have a position for you.

Having tripled our sales since 2014, we are looking for a VP of Sales to accelerate our growth even further. You will have global responsibility for sales of our high quality, industrial-grade spectrometers to major global scientific, medical, industrial and pharmaceutical instrument manufacturers.

The full sales cycle typically extends over a period of 1-5 years, beginning with the design of a customised spectrometer in the early phase of product development, and extending through product testing and regulatory approval to product launch and volume production.

The majority of our customers are based in North America, but we are on an interesting sales journey with an ambitious international growth strategy.

The role of the Vice President of Sales

Reporting directly to the CEO of Ibsen, you will be an important part of the senior management team. You will be measured on sales, how good you are at growing the business, and how well you run your team.

As VP you will be responsible for

  • Identifying and winning new major accounts
  • Contract negotiations with customers
  • Developing sales strategies for continued growth in underserved market segments
  • Developing a strategy for our distributors/agents and managing these
  • Hiring, managing, and coaching a small team of regional Sales Development Managers.

Initially you will have two Sales Development Managers reporting to you, but one of your first tasks will be to hire an additional resource – most likely based in Germany. By 2025, we expect the team to count 6 Sales Development Managers.

Furthermore, you will have direct management responsibility for our Marketing Manager, who manages marketing, product management, and customer support. Currently, this department employs a staff of four employees.

We imagine that you are located in either Europe or USA and that you can work from your home office. You can expect approx. 80-100 travelling days per year. During your first 6 months, you should expect to spend most of your time in our Headquarters in Farum, Denmark.

Job Requirements

Your background and skills:

The ideal candidate is a natural born sales talent who comes with an educational background within sales and / or engineering. You get your energy from finding new sales opportunities and nurturing existing customers, understanding how important value selling is. It is a must that you come with solid B2B sales experience from selling to large customer organisations at executive level.

Also, you should tick the boxes below:

  • Experienced in coaching and motivating a sales team – setting ambitious goals and helping your team to achieve them
  • Proven track record of successful sales strategy and pipeline management
  • A proactive and highly energetic personality with a strong desire to talk to new customers every day
  • You come with a strong preference for quality and honesty in all customer communications

Since corporate language is English we expect you to be fluent in written and spoken English. Other major languages are an additional advantage, while Danish is not a prerequisite.
