Job Description


  • Lead standard product ECO (engineering change orders), manage BOM (bill of materials), assist with router generation, assign test methodology and define component specifications

  • Responsible for the special item process for custom catalog optics products to include costing analysis, specifications clarification, vendor negotiations, and quotation generation

  • Act as catalog optics key technical resource for sales engineering, outside suppliers, and planner/buyer staff

  • Creatively solve any quality issues that arise pertaining to the manufacture of catalog optic products. Be the technical resource to technicians working on optical systems assembly, trouble shoot manufacturing issues, set up special optical tests as needed, and execute specification analysis

  • Conduct weekly MRB (material review board) disposition meetings with planner and QC staff

  • Maintain, monitor and execute RoHS compliance information for full product line

  • Create Zemax, Solidworks or other optical file updates for specification analysis or for upload to the website

  • Assist in product classification for export, and other compliance data for product line

Vendor Management

  • Support the materials team on vendor visits, vendor audits, and technical reviews of vendor manufacturing processes as needed

  • Collaborate with domestic and international vendors and Newport manufacturing personnel

  • Act as the lead contact for all vendor product issues, coordinate and evaluate returns, and troubleshoot technical challenges


  • Support marketing functions such as competitive analysis, trade show activity support, generation of marketing collateral and website technical information maintenance

  • Some travel is required, estimated at 2-5 trips per year

Job Requirements
  • B.S. in Optical Engineering required, Masters or PhD preferred

  • Minimum of 3-5 years recent experience in optics manufacturing, metrology, or sales

  • Familiar with optical manufacturing processes and optical specifications

  • Familiar with Zemax, Code V, Solidworks or Macleod Coatings Software

  • Familiar with SalesForce and SAP preferred

  • Experience with off shore optics manufacturing sites
