ATA develops embedded processing systems for commercial and DoD applications. Job Description

Job Description:

The engineer will become a team-member of the Embedded Systems group and will design, simulate, and test FPGA designs for terrestrial and space-based opto-mechanical applications (e.g. fast steering mirrors, inertial reference units, camera acquisition, video processing, and general real-time systems). FPGA engineers at ATA provide support in FPGA architecture design, implementation via VHDL (Verilog is an acceptable substitute), simulation, test of implemented designs on hardware targets, and troubleshooting of existing designs.

Essential Functions:

The FPGA Engineer’s duties will include:

  • FPGA architecture design
  • FPGA interface design for analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog converters
  • VHDL circuit implementation and simulation
  • Design of software and firmware test harnesses
  • Bench-level hardware testing and troubleshooting of FPGA designs

Job Requirements

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant Engineering (Electrical/Computer Engineering or Computer Science) from an accredited four-year university with more than two years of experience in FPGA design
  • Experience with Xilinx devices (e.g. Virtex, Zynq) and design tools (e.g. Vivado, ISE)
  • Basic knowledge of C or C++ to support authoring of software test harnesses for FPGA designs
  • Ability to interpret basic electrical schematics and datasheets
  • Must be a U.S. person, and able to obtain and maintain a DoD clearance


Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in Engineering or other relevant Engineering (Electrical/Computer Engineering or Computer Science) from an accredited university with two or more years of experience with FPGA design
  • Experience with MATLAB scripting
  • Experience with Digital Signal Processing (DSP) algorithms and architectures
  • Current Secret DoD Clearance
