Ion Optics
Ion Optics, Inc. is a manufacturer of two classes of compact, high efficiency, low thermal-mass, infrared radiators for civilian and military applications.
Broadband sources from the pulsIR™ and reflectIR™ families are used in gas detection and analysis, spectroscopy, and calibration applications. Standard pulsIR™ and reflectIR™ sources produce infrared energy from 2 to 20 µm. Devices from the pulsIR™ family are manufactured in TO-46, TO-5, and TO-8 packages. Devices from the reflectIR™ family are mounted in a 12.7 mm diameter parabolic reflector. The radiated spectrum will vary depending on the window option chosen. Window materials include sapphire, calcium fluoride, and germanium.
Tuned Band Emitters from the tūnIR™ and markIR™ produce a narrow band spectrum. The spectral bandwidth for the Tuned Band Emitters is typically 25% of the center wavelength. As such, a source with a center wavelength of 4 µm will have a FWHM spectral output that is 1 µm (±0.5 µm) wide. Present tūnIR™ and markIR™ devices are mounted in ceramic, leadless chip carriers with sapphire windows. The next generation of devices will be manufactured in wafer-level, surface mountable packages. These will become available in late 2004.
Devices from the tūnIR™ family have center wavelengths that are tuned to match specific gas absorption lines in the mid-infrared. Devices from the markIR™ are intended for marker or beacon applications. The output spectrum for markIR™ is confined to 3-5 µm.
Ion Optics has a well rounded staff for contract research and development, SBIRs, and BAAs.
