Lumenis closes seven sites

17 Jun 2002

Lumenis completes the integration of Coherent's medical group and closes seven facilities.

Israeli medical laser manufacturer Lumenis, formerly ESC Medical Systems, is to close seven of its facilities around the world. The move, which is a result of the integration of US company Coherent's medical group, will result in 200 job losses.

The company has closed manufacturing sites in Seattle, US and Tel Aviv, Israel, as well as five sales offices in: Norwood, US; Munich, Germany; Cambridge, UK; Paris, France; and Tokyo, Japan. Some of these facilities will retain skeleton personnel until they are occupied by new tenants.

"These closures are final steps in the integration of Coherent Medical Group," said Yacha Sutton, president and chief executive officer of Lumenis. "We have consolidated our manufacturing sites and balanced production between the US and Israel. We have combined sales offices, strengthening our sales channels around the world. I am especially proud that these steps are being completed on the schedule we originally announced."

He says the company is on track for meeting its financial targets including a record fourth quarter, significantly surpassing historical performance of the combined ESC and Coherent businesses. "Much of the credit is due to our outstanding employees," said Sutton. "I would like to especially thank the over 200 employees who are completing their tenure with us and who displayed unwavering professionalism and dedication during this period."
