Lucent expands its Irish operations

17 Jun 2002

Lucent Technologies of Murray Hill, NJ, US has announced a USD 150 million investment, over the next three years, to build a 200,000 square-foot extension to its Blanchardstown plant in Dublin, Ireland.

This expansion, which will create 500 new jobs, will help the company to serve its customers in Europe and the Asia-Pacific region more quickly.

The company says that the new facility will be equipped to produce approximately USD 250 million worth of optical networking systems in this calendar year. When the expansion has been completed in May 2001, the plant will be capable of producing more than USD 2 billion worth of equipment annually.

Lucent is now launching a major recruiting drive to attract engineers, technicians, and business and information technology professionals to add to the 600 employees already located in sites in and around Dublin.

"In introducing optical manufacturing to this country, Lucent is placing Ireland at the hub of a high-bandwidth, high-capacity technology," commented Eoin O'Driscoll, the vice president of International Operations, Service Provider Networks, and chairman of Lucent Technologies Ireland.
