A high-speed CD-ROM and DVD-ROM drive, developed by Hitachi (Tokyo, Japan), will be tested this month. The company claims the drive, which features adouble lens and laser pickup, can operate CD-ROM disks at 20 times the standard speed and DVD-ROMs at twice the normal speed. Access time is 100 ms for theCD-ROM and 150 ms for the DVD-ROM.
