Oxley Developments' rugged, tri-color LEDS have found a new customer in London Underground's trackside lighting systems.
Oxley Developments, Barrow-in-Furness, UK, has secured a production order to supply LED displays for use in rail side electronics equipment on the London Underground.
The high intensity LEDs have been customised for use in illuminated control boxes known as Mimic Panels which identify the schematic outline of the underground railway tracks.
The LEDs will be supplied to an LU contractor that builds and maintains the track. The order follows an initial requirement for prototypes which successfully passed a qualification program and have now been granted approved for manufacture into the panels.
The single chip displays are a customised variant from the Oxley OXL/CLH mid-range of LEDs. This variant of LED has three color options in one lamp, which reduces the number of LEDs the customer requires. They include many features of robust, military specification devices, but are lower in price rendering them cost effective for design into industrial applications.
Sealed to IP66 the LEDs have an operating temperature range of -40 to 100ºC and in addition to standard power of 12, 24 and 28 V, customised options are also available. Oxley also provides mounting sleeve options varying from 10 to 22mm in diameter, a choice of colors combinations and flying leads.
