Unraveling DNA
In the Stanford University instrument, optical tweezers trap DNA molecules on a tiny bead. The tweezers force the DNA to unravel, while the evanescent wave of an argon ion laser probes subtle molecular changes. The result should be a better understanding of biomolecular reactions that lead to disease (Credit: Journal of Biology).
