Back illuminated sCMOS by PCO

25 Feb 2019

Unique technology comes from evolution, combining existing and new technology. When PCO’s tried and trusted sCMOS cameras pool forces with modern back illuminated (bi) sensor technology, pco.edge 4.2 bi and pco.panda 4.2 bi come into the world of science.

Both cameras stand out with their nearly perfect quantum efficiency up to 95 %. Their high resolutions of 2048 x 2048 pixels with 6.5 µm² pixel size allow highly qualitative images. At full resolution their 16 bit sCMOS sensors acquire up to 40 fps with exposure times down to 10 µs.

The unique aspect about pco.edge 4.2 bi: Its adjustable cooling system enables the use of air or water to cool the sensor down to -25 °C. At this temperature, the dark current is reduced to 0.2 e-/pixel/s. The pco.edge 4.2 bi incorporates a powerful USB 3.1 interface complementing its performance.

Needless to say, the pco.panda 4.2 bi also is one of a kind. It comes in an ultra-compact design of 65 x 65 x 65 mm³. The camera is perfectly suited for low light conditions without the need for active cooling. It operates with USB 3.1, too. However, the pco.panda 4.2 bi provides direct power delivery via USB cable, making external power supplies redundant.
