Quality Filters and Mirrors for Fluorescence | |
21 Feb 2017 Knight Optical supply high quality optical components for use in fluorometers, fluorescence spectrometers, microplate readers and x-ray fluorescence applications. These applications are extensively used in the medical and biomedical sectors, but are also to be found in the fields of Research and Development, microanalysis and thermal imaging. In addition to this, we also provide a wide range of optics to manufacturers of deep-sea analytical instrumentation. Knight Optical offer a range of custom optical band pass filters comprising of interference, coloured glass, gelatin, polyester, variable bandpass and edge, fluorescence, dichroic band-pass and blocking, mounted singles, and sets of mounted and unmounted. The interference filters are made from thin films of material that have differing refractive indices and thickness, whilst the glass and gelatin have a dye within the substrate. 1. Fluorescence Filters We supply excitation and emission filters offering excellent levels of transmission within a wide range of bandwidths - from one to one hundred nanometers – and blocking of up to OD5. All of our filters are CNC scribed and hermetically sealed to ensure maximum long-term stability and to prevent any leakage of moisture that can occur when filters are sealed into metal housings with resin alone. Whilst our standard range of interference bandpass filters are mounted, un-mounted types with aerospace painted edges can be supplied at special request. 2. Beamsplitters Beamsplitters are used in fluorescence applications to direct a more concentrated beam of light towards the fluorescein excitation filter. Our precision grade plate beamsplitters eliminate issues with stray back reflected light from the entry and exit faces. They are made from high quality BK7 and have both faces polished to a high degree of flatness (lambda/4) with a high degree of parallelism. Our stock beamsplitters have an ion-plated dielectric multilayer coating which provides excellent durability and are not largely affected by temperature changes. Their backs are multilayer AR coated to eliminate the spurious reflection. They are available for use in visible with a 50/50 split ratio. 3. Optical Mirrors Our optical mirrors are to be found in excitation and emission monochromators to project light on to detectors and LEDs at the optimum angle of incidence. We offer a variety of mirror grades, ranging from general purpose grade plane mirrors to precision grade components with flatness in excess of Lambda/10. With the correct coatings, these can be transformed into dichroic, hot and cold mirrors. 4. Sapphire Windows Sapphire windows are extremely pressure resistant and virtually unbreakable. As a material, it has excellent strength and abrasive resistance. As such, it is ideal for use in deep-sea fluorescence applications and for any instruments that have to endure harsh environmental conditions, such as portable chlorophyll luminescence products and mini fluorometers.
