MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, FEBRUARY 8, 2006 Ariel Technologies Inc. (ATI) is supplying industry-leading fiber laser integrators with the worlds first laser pump guard, protecting valuable components from back lasing.
ATIs Laser Pump Guard has been designed to guard fiber-coupled pump light sources. Based on field tests, a single ATI LPG has been demonstrated to prevent light source burnout in 100% of cases. The worlds first LPG increases the reliability and durability of equipment already in place while significantly shortening development time, resulting in considerable cost savings.
ATI estimates using LPGs will save users up to $2 million in direct diode loses from burnout, says Mickey Rozen, CEO of API, ATIs Israel-based development center. Using our solutions literally can provide $20 million in cost savings per year in the associated losses, like working hours and system defects.
Light passes from the light source through the LPG directly to the active doped fiber, without significantly reducing the light power or affecting the pumping wavelength. Test durations at the maximum power level demonstrated no observable power fluctuations or power decay, while temperature increases were minimal. The LPG can be used with power up to 10W. Multimode splice insertion losses are estimated as about 0.3-0.4 dB. LPGs pump wavelengths are 790 nm, 915 nm, 940nm and 980 nm, while the stop-band wavelength ranges are around the 1 um, 1.55 um and 2 um. All wavelength ranges can be adjusted, based on customer requirements (for example: 1030 to 1090nm).
