TECHNOLAS® TENEO™ 317 Excimer Laser Workstation From Bausch + Lomb Technolas Receives CE Mark

Date Announced: 04 Oct 2013

Next-Generation Excimer Laser for Refractive Surgery Can Be Used to Treat Nearsightedness, Farsightedness, Astigmatism and Presbyopia.

MUNICH, GERMANY--(Marketwired - Oct 4, 2013) - Bausch + Lomb, the global eye health company, announced today that its TECHNOLAS® TENEO™ 317 excimer laser workstation received CE mark in the European Union (EU) to treat all types of ametropia (refractive errors). Bausch + Lomb Technolas (TECHNOLAS Perfect Vision GmbH - A Bausch + Lomb Company) has been a leader in ophthalmic lasers for both refractive and cataract surgery and the new TENEO 317 is built on 20 years of company experience and innovations in the field.

In addition to traditional LASIK capabilities to treat myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness) and astigmatism, the TENEO 317 has integrated SUPRACOR™, a corneal approach to treating presbyopia. Presbyopia, caused by the natural course of aging, is a gradual thickening and loss of flexibility of the natural lens inside the eye making it harder to focus up close. SUPRACOR is a special procedure designed to provide presbyopia correction, while minimizing the induction of unwanted aberrations within the pupil region.

"Our new TENEO 317 laser is simple and highly intuitive to use, incorporating our fastest, next generation eyetracker technology. The system features advanced ergonomics and a compact footprint, allowing it to easily integrate into any practice," said Kristian Hohla, Ph.D., President of Bausch + Lomb Technolas, Chairman of Laser and Surgical Strategy and Development. "Furthermore, the TENEO 317 is a great addition to our product portfolio which includes our VICTUS® femtosecond laser, which was the first femtosecond laser capable of supporting cataract and corneal procedures on a single platform."

Robert Ang, M.D., Asian Eye Institute, the Philippines, said, "I routinely treat my presbyopic patients with the SUPRACOR procedure, providing the possibility of a spectacle-free lifestyle. The enhanced ergonomic design and layout of the TENEO 317 means I can now offer my patients a more comfortable and relaxing surgical experience."
