Not fade away
Regular stacking of nano-sized transparent polymer spheres, which yields a variety of iridescent colors. Having learnt how to make artificial opals in large-area films, the Cambridge team believes that the materials are suitable for use in color-changing textiles. Because the colors are based on physical structure rather than dyes, they should never fade. Credit: Baumberg et al/University of Cambridge.
