Cree prototype 75W replacement
Cree, one of the LED manufacturers focused on general lighting applications, is having to deal with increased competition and price pressure at the moment. It has just entered this 1300 lumen prototype design for the DOE's 21st Century Lamp technology competition. It operates at 152 lm/W and consumes only 8.7 W - despite producing enough warm white light to be considered a genuine replacement for a 75 W incandescent lamp. The key question is now this: how much would it cost to produce and buy? Credit: Cree.
