| US Energy Secretary Steven Chu, Nobel prize winner for physics in 1997 and a pioneer in various photonics applications, drew strong comparisons between the "moon shot" program initiated by President Kennedy in the early 1960s and the "SunShot" initiative, which aims to both cut the cost of solar energy production dramatically and re-position the US at the forefront of the PV industry, which is now dominated by China and Germany. |
