High Reliability Plastic Optical Fibre Emitters and Detectors Aug 6, 2009
Polymer optical fibre (POF) offers a light weight, high bandwidth capacity alternative to conventional copper wiring. As POF is also immune to electromagnetic interference (EMI).
It is ideal for difficult automotive, domestic and industrial environments.
Hamamatsu Photonics have been supplying to automotive companies our 50M bps components since the late 1990s. With well over 50 million parts deployed in fifteen different manufacturers’ vehicles, Hamamatsu boasts of having not a single failure in the field to date. We are all striving to improve technology, and with continuing demand from the automotive market to extend the operating temperature range of all components, Hamamatsu have introduced new, high performance, high reliability components, the L10663-01* LED and S10664-01* photo IC receiver.
These new parts are guaranteed to operate over the temperature range from –40 C to +105 C and compared to previous LEDs and receivers the new L10663-01 and S10664-01 are designed to work from a low voltage 3.3V supply. As with our current devices, the L10663-01 and S10664-01 have added functionality, such as "standby" or "sleep" mode operation to reduce power consumption.
*These products are designed specifically to meet the requirements of the “MOST” standards (MOST 25) adopted by the European automotive market.
