SpeedCam Visario g3

28 Sep 2007

Ruggedized high-speed camera with the latest 1.536 x 1.024 CMOS sensor technology

With the SpeedCam Visario g3 high-speed camera, Weinberger introduces the 3rd generation of successful Visario cameras. Compared to the Visario g2 predecessor model, the Visario g3 offers enhanced performance features. The heart of the high-speed camera is the extremely light-sensitive and noise-optimized Weinberger CMOS sensor. The patented sensor with chessboard architecture and octagonal pixels is Weinberger’s own development and available worldwide exclusively in Visario cameras. Crystal-clear pictures with high colour fidelity and at the same time a low amount of raw data are the advantages of the Weinberger sensor as compared to a conventional CMOS sensor with Bayer pattern. With the maximum resolution of 1,536 x 1,024 pixels, the g3 attains a maximum recording frequency of 1,000 frames per second (fps). The speed can be increased up to 100,000 fps in six different resolution levels. At the maximum speed, objects for analysis can still be recorded in the square 256 x 16 pixel format. To avoid bothersome motion blur, the electronic shutter works at a speed of up to 5 µs. The light sensitivity of the Visario g3, which is adjusted to daylight, was increased by a factor of 4 in comparison with the predecessor model. Thus, with a colour camera the sensitivity reaches 800 ISO/ASA and with use of a monochrome sensor 2,400 ISO/ASA. This allows very good analyses with little use of artificial illumination and thus reduces lighting and energy costs. Numerous memory expansions between 3 and 12 GB allow long recording times of up to 10.8 seconds with 1,000 fps in full resolution. It is expected that a 24 GB ring buffer will also be available starting in spring 2008. For use under extreme conditions in the test centres of the automotive industry, the camera is resistant to static acceleration up to 100 g in all axes. An additional highlight of the g3 is the high-dynamic mode that can be optionally switched on. In the Visart control software, the image dynamics can be optimized to 12 bits via mouse click. This 12-bit mode was specially developed for use in film and television projects. Special effects in super-slow motion can be produced even more dynamically and excitingly in 12-bit mode. Numerous options allow individual configuration of the high-speed camera for various areas of use. For example, a video output, the input for the IRIG-B time stamp signal, a fiber optics connection, battery option, an internal hard drive and an integrated flash memory are available. The high-speed camera has a Gigabit-Ethernet interface as a standard feature and can be operated with any high-capacity notebook or Windows PC. For professional camera control and image processing, the Visart control software is included with the SpeedCam Visario g3.
