April 2007 Archives

Following is the second instalment of optics.org's preview of some of the interesting exhibitors scheduled to be appearing at Munich's LASER show 2007.

The Optical Metrology conference, organized by the International Society of Optical Engineering (SPIE), provides a unique opportunity to hear about the latest solutions to practical problems in industrial design and production engineering. The use of optical measurement systems in arts, architecture and archeology will also be discussed.

The use of optical technologies and lasers for minimally invasive diagnostic and therapeutic applications has recently emerged as a major research field. The European Conference on Biomedical Optics (ECBO 2007) aims to bring together scientists, engineers and clinical researchers to discuss how optical sciences and photonics technologies can be applied to problems in biomedical science.

The use of laser technology in manufacturing processes is of ever-increasing economic importance, and the aim of the Lasers in Manufacturing (LIM 2007) conference is to bring researchers together with industrialists to discuss performance improvements and new applications for laser systems in industrial manufacturing. Topics will include theoretical analysis, simulation, experimental work and the development of system technology for processing and control applications.

A series of conferences run by the European Optical Society (EOS) will fall under two main themes. "Trends in Optoelectronics" will look at how optoelectronics is being used for applications such as information retrieval, processing, transport and communications, while "Frontiers in Electronic Imaging" will look at the technology and market opportunities for electronic imaging devices.

CLEO Europe / IQEC (Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics Europe and International Quantum Electronics Conference), which take place throughout the 17-22 June period, are both organized by the European Physical Society. CLEO / Europe will emphasize applied physics, engineering and applications of lasers and electro-optics, while IQEC 2007 will focus on fundamental science including laser physics, nonlinear optics and fundamentals of quantum optics.

The conferences: six of the best
The World of Photonics Congress takes place in parallel with the LASER 2007 exhibition between 17 and 22 June 2007. Supported by the German Ministry for Education and Research, the wide-ranging congress aims to strike a balance between scientific- and application-oriented events, such as the industry workshops detailed in our last issue of LASER 2007 Update.
