March 2007 Archives

Over the coming weeks and months, the optics.org and Optics & Laser Europe team will be profiling a selection of interesting exhibitors at the LASER show. While we can't promise to cover every one of the 1100-plus expected exhibitors, we will do our level best to seek out some of the more arresting developments on show.

Reflecting the resurgence that laser-related industries have experienced over the past several years, the last LASER event, in 2005, set records for the numbers of both exhibitors and attendees. And the organizer - at least - is expecting this year's event to burn even brighter (well, they would say that, wouldn't they?).

Laser 2007 doesn't just want to sell, it also wants to tell. Besides the academic and commercial presentations there are a good number of "how to" industry workshops running between Tuesday 19 June and Thursday 21 June.

Topics range in scope from the user-friendly-sounding "Laser Technology ABCs" through several sessions on laser welding to specialized applications in biophotonics and medical device manufacturing. And most are billed to feature practical examples from industry.

So if you have the time, here's the schedule...

The World of Photonics Congress, which takes place in parallel with the LASER exhibition event, will continue to expand in 2007. To achieve this most effectively, MMI has been receiving support from Germany's Federal Ministry for Research and Technology.

If the highlights of 2005's LASER event are anything to judge by, this year's event will deliver ever more useful tutorials, industry best practice forums and practical demonstrations of industrial laser solutions. Discussion and lecture topics range from methods for mentoring new staff to employing lasers in a range of special applications; from gaining financial assistance and advice for laser entrepreneurs to how European research policy can help companies based in the continent.

Welcome to optics.org's exclusive online resource dedicated to the forthcoming Laser 2007 exhibition and World of Photonics conference, which organizer Messe München says is set to outshine all previous such events held over the past 34 years. Between now and the grand opening on 18 June, optics.org will be posting a series of articles to keep you informed about what will be happening at the world's biggest laser exhibition and conference.
