•  ESDI hires optical expert to give customer training

Turner: technical ace

ESDI, a US developer of metrology instruments, has recruited Mary Turner as chief technical support engineer. Turner was technical sales manager with Breault Research Organization for two years and before that was senior scientist at Zemax Development Corporation. She has a PhD from the University of Arizona's Optical Services Centre.

•  Industry veteran opens doors at US laser firm

Hartwick: broad view

Aculight, US, has welcomed Thomas Hartwick to its board of directors. Hartwick has spent almost 50 years in hi-tech business management and research and development. His expertise spans lasers, electro-optics, electronic and microwave devices, and satellite systems. "Hartwick brings a lifetime of connections in industry and government that will open a lot of doors for us," commented Don Rich, Aculight president and CEO.


•  Rofin-Sinar promotes Mittelstädt to CFO

Mittelstädt: talented

Rofin Sinar, a developer of high power laser systems, has promoted Ingrid Mittelstädt from head of corporate controlling to chief financial officer (CFO). Mittelstädt has been with the German firm since 1997 and holds a masters degree in economic sciences from the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina.

•  Clough looking to take Janos to the next level

Clough: strong leader

Janos Technology, a specialist in infrared optics, has appointed Harvey Clough as president. Clough's role will be to guide Janos as it attempts to continue its rapid growth in commercial and defence sectors. The US company expanded to a 40,000 ft2 facility in June last year. Before joining Janos, Clough was president and chief operating officer of Energy Sciences Inc., a US manufacturer of electron beam systems. Previously, he held a number of manufacturing, quality and engineering management positions at GE Lighting.

•  TeraView strengthens its senior management team

Paddy O'Kelly will join TeraView as chief operating officer this month. O'Kelly's role will be to ensure that the UK developer of terahertz technology executes and delivers its contracts with major pharmaceutical customers and medical imaging partners on time. Previously, he was managing director of UK-based Applied Imaging International, a subsidiary of Applied Imaging, US, and brings over 20 years of experience in operations and product development to TeraView.
